Since 1927, the Heraklion Union has been developing the winemaking tradition of Crete. In 2008, a new, state-of-the-art winery was inaugurated in Paliani, Heraklion, on a 50-acre (approx. 0.2 sq km) site, combining modern technology with the region’s centuries-old viticultural tradition. It is one of the largest wineries in Greece and the Balkans, with a production capacity of up to 6,800 tons of wine annually.
Production is based primarily on local varieties and on cooperation with hundreds of local vine growers. The aim is to highlight the Cretan vineyard through quality wines with a strong local identity.
